Volunteer and In-Kind Update | January 2015

Paige Dennis

Happy 2015! Project HOME is in need of volunteer tutors and receptionists, and warm winter gear to help our residents and Outreach clients. As always, check out our online Amazon wish list, Amazon Smile account, and list of in-kind needs.

Volunteer Opportunities

K-8 Tutors
Help afterschool students at the Honickman Learning Center and Comcast Technology Labs with literacy and homework. Mondays through Thursdays, 4pm to 6 pm.

Teen Tutors
Help afterschool students at the Honickman Learning Center and Comcast Technology Labs with homework and SAT prep. Mondays through Fridays, 4 pm to 6 pm.

Adult Tutors
Tutor Project HOME residents and community members in literacy, technology, or GED preparation. Tutors must be trained through the Mayor’s Commission on Literacy or have an equivalent certification. Tutors can either be matched with adult students at the Honickman Learning Center and Comcast Technology Labs for daytime hours or can be stationed at Project HOME residences for evening hours.

JBJ Soul Homes 2nd Floor Offices Receptionists
Buzz in and guide visitors, and handle light administrative tasks for shifts during normal business hours.

St. Columba Receptionists
Basic receptionist tasks and more in a high-need environment. Buzz in and guide visitors, direct phone calls, and help staff with small tasks as needed. (E.g. Donation sorting, helping residents move and laundry assistance.) Volunteers will have constant interaction with chronically homeless men. Because of the special needs of our residents, and the need for stability, consistency and trust in this environment, volunteers must make a strong commitment of at least one shift per week for at least four months. Experience working with individuals dealing with severe mental illness, substance abuse, or chronic homelessness preferred. Volunteers needed Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for shifts during normal business hours.

Gift-in-Kind Needs

Our most urgent needs are new and gently used winter weather gear, including long underwear, heavy coats, warm socks, boots, sweatshirts, sweatpants, blankets, hats, scarves, gloves, mittens and hand warmers.

Please note that our wish list on Amazon in no way advocates for one product or company over any other; all listed products were selected by lowest price only.
