[RELEASE] PROJECT HOME ANNOUNCES DECEMBER GROUNDBREAKING FOR FIRST PHASE OF PLANNED RESIDENCE FOR FORMERLY HOMELESS INDIVIDUALS

PHILADELPHIA, October 2, 2017 – The groundbreaking ceremony for the first phase of the two-part affordable housing development project at 1315 N. 8th Street has been scheduled for Wednesday, December 6, 2017, capping an unexpectedly complicated purchase of the property.

The planned residence will be built in two phases; the first will encompass 30 units of affordable housing targeted to young adults (age 18-23) who have experienced or are at risk of homelessness and will be LBGTQ-friendly. The second phase will provide 40 units of affordable housing for adults who have experienced homelessness.

The young adult residence will be the first of its kind in Pennsylvania, and among the first in the nation.

Pro bono legal counsel provided by Reed Smith LLP enabled Project HOME to successfully navigate an acquisition process complicated by the bankruptcy of the North Philadelphia Health System, the previous owner of the parcel.
