A Legacy Ignited: Turn Your Compassion Into Action

Project HOME
Graphic featuring Neph with quote

Just four years ago, Neph's mornings, afternoons and nights were confined to the streets of Kensington. The city lights offered no warmth, and the surrounding crowds brought no solace.

"It's hard," he remembers, "being outside with nowhere to go. You're on your own."

Today, Neph, a resident at Project HOME’s Inn of Amazing Mercy, stands mere steps from those harsh memories, but a world away. “Sometimes, I pinch myself when I wake up,” beams Neph. “Because this feels too good to be true.”

As he leaves his apartment each morning, Neph is likely to see three things on the way out the door: a devotional that reminds him to “align my soul to better receive Your wisdom and follow where it leads,” Puerto Rico’s flag to remind him of his heritage, and a photo of his granddaughter standing tall in her field hockey uniform.

“When you help one person, you help so many more.”

The ripple effect of hope can empower individuals like Neph to build a future brimming with possibility.  â€śYou need more than housing, you need schooling, and opportunities. You need to feel that you are worth something,” says Neph.

Project HOME recognizes that true transformation goes beyond bricks and mortar. Supportive services, educational opportunities, and access to high quality medical care are all centered on the dignity of each resident. Taken together, the HOME model creates consistent, real-time access points to resources that empower residents like Neph – who is one in a Beloved Community of thousands – to re-connect with their inherent self-worth.

“This is a challenging thing to do, starting over,” reflects Neph. “I never thought I could. But I know we all can try when there are people who care.”

Neph's story isn't just one of personal triumph; it's a testament to the transformative power of Project HOME, and his words resonate deeply: "This organization, the people here, what they do for you, is life changing."
