I Saw A Man

Qasim Moore

We recently experienced a loss in our community:  Gunnar Brown, who lived at our Kate’s Place Residence, passed away on February 28.  In his honor, Kate’s Place Program Manager Qasim Moore wrote the following poem:

I Saw a Man

I saw a man today in a fight for his life

I saw a man turn left today for his path not always right

I saw a man reach out today as if reaching for his soul

I saw a man in pain today for his eyes told me so

I saw a man in fear today for this address soon to be gone

I saw a man surrender today for he could breathe on his own

I saw a man travel to which his whereabouts unknown

I saw a man today whose fear was dying alone

I saw a man not so fearful, because he lived at Project HOME

I saw a man today whose mood was often down

That man I saw his name was Gunnar Brown

I saw a man, a man, a man, who struggled day to day

I saw a man today who’s higher power said let’s be on our way

So with a blink of an eye, no goodbyes, Gunnar could not stay

But most of all I saw the message which said “we all must go someday”

I saw a man today who reminded me to hold on tight, try to do

Right but live, love and forgive along the way!

In remembrance of A Man - Gunnar Brown
