I Am Stronger than I Thought I Was

Dee Dee Risher

Hyacinth King has an amazing story of courage, hope, and giving back.

Hyacinth King has been a crucial part of the Project HOME community for more than 18 years. She was on track for success (high school at the prestigious Friend's Select, college at Temple University) when mental illness hit and plunged her into addiction. In this beautiful, eight-minute video, created as part of the Recovery Diaries website, she tells her story and revisits all the sites of both trauma and healing. Today, Hyacinth is relentless and also gentle in her ongoing campaign to bring people in from the street--to bring them HOME. As winter comes, and more people are out on the streets, Hyacinth's example is more important that ever.
