The Final Rose of the Season

Jeffrey Goldwire

Jeffrey Goldwire is a Maintenance Tech at our Rowan Judson residence.

This poem was written by me, and the accompanying art work was done by artist Randall Sykes, a resident at Kairos House.   I started the Maintenance Tech position with Project HOME at Kairos House, where I met Randall and other talented and amazing residents.  When I began seeing Randall's art work, I shared with him that I wrote poetry and I would like to use his artwork along with my poetry.  I read the poem “The Final Rose of the Season” to him and asked him to draw a single rose to accompany the poem.   The poem was written about 12 years ago and the art work was done a year ago.

The Final Rose of the Season

The final rose of the season has blossomed

Beautifully
Red and rosy, rosy and red beautiful to
See
Pleasant to the eyes, to the nose a sweet
Smelling scent
Near to one it adds razz a perfectly
Perfect accent
This is the final rose, the final rose of
The season
Given out of love from my heart
and love is the love is the only reason
In hope that it is uplifting and gives
Some kind of encouragement
Not considering or giving thought
To the amount of time that was spent
Seeking, searching, picking and pruning
For only the best would do
Therefore I present this rose and it is
From me to you.
