Celebration of Recovery

"Let Philadelphia see how much recovery is going on in this city."

Dozens of members of the Project HOME participated in the 2014 Philadelphia Recovery Walk last Saturday, September 20.  Sponsored by Pro-ACT, the Recovery Walk brings together several thousand persons from around the city and region to celebrate recovery.  The group marched from Penn’s Landing along the waterfront into Old City, with chants, singing, colorful banners and sign.  The festivity were brimming with beauty, hope, and a sense of a truly empowered community.

Some of the participants from Project HOME shared their reflections on the event:

“It was a real good experience.  I was able to make contact with friends from my earlier recovery process who also continues on their journey.”

“My first recovery walk.  I found it to be spiritually uplifting.  I enjoyed seeing people that I had used drugs with now in recovery with me.  Even with my disabilities, I was proud to be a part of the Recovery Walk.”

“I found the experience to be extremely rewarding.  This was my first and I hope it will not be my last.  I would have loved to have stayed longer (Penn’s Landing) and continue to meet new people in recovery.”

“I was amazed at the number of people in the recovery walk. I was asked, ‘What the recovery walk is about?’ I said, ‘Let Philadelphia see how much recovery is going on in this city.’ It was inspiring.”

“It was good for me. Seeing the unity of everyone coming together. Good deed, good cause; made me feel better about myself.”

“This was my second walk. When I walk the first time, I was so in awe. When I saw all the different programs and people I was blown away.  I never knew about all the programs in Philadelphia.”

“I experienced recovery affecting all people.  Recovery can be fun without a chemical.”
