From the Philadelphia Gay News

Joseph Hill-Coles was born to a drug-addicted mother in Philadelphia and entered the foster-care system at the age of 3. Although he was adopted by a single mother when he was 10, he said he was an angry kid. He got kicked out of several schools before being arrested at 17.

“When I got out, it was all about survival,” Hill-Coles said. “I house-hopped until I wore out my welcome.”

This Monday — amid street merchants hawking pope t-shirts, storefronts replete with bobblehead versions of the same, and a city girding itself with hundreds of porta-potties and worries, Project HOME and the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation quietly renamed a new affordable housing development in Chinatown in honor of Pope Francis.

Francis House of Peace

Project HOME announced final plans for its newest affordable housing development in Philadelphia, located in Chinatown at 810 Arch Street when it officially unveiled the name of the site – “Francis House of Peace.”  The name honors Pope Francis and his commitment to improve conditions for those who live in poverty.

The dedication ceremony with the partners, lead donors and residents took place on Monday, September 21, 2015. Project HOME also announced plans for its completion in early November 2015.
